Sealock supplies dry bags, phone pouches and floating packs to kayak and paddleboard rental fleets, guided tour operators, resorts and boat charter companies, with OEM production from 300 pieces, fleet colour coding and numbering, and factories in Dongguan, China and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This guide is written for the operator who buys bags to be used by hundreds of different customers in a season, and it covers the specification choices that decide whether a fleet bag lasts one summer or five.
A rental dry bag lives a very different life from one bought in a shop. It is closed by a different person every day, most of whom have never used a dry bag before. It is dropped on rocks, dragged across sand, left in the sun on a dock and thrown into the bottom of a boat. Rental terms in the industry reflect this. One Canadian outfitter, for example, rents a 10 litre dry bag for five Canadian dollars and charges the full retail price for any bag that is lost or damaged. The rental fee is small, so the bag has to survive many hires before it pays for itself, and every damaged or lost bag is a cost and an argument at the counter.
Fabric weight is the first decision. A light 210D bag is fine for a single owner who looks after it, but a fleet bag needs abrasion resistance more than it needs low weight. Our SL-D002 is made from 500D PVC tarpaulin about half a millimetre thick, with high-frequency welded seams and an inner sealing film inside the roll-top. It is the specification we recommend for most rental fleets, from 5 litre phone-and-keys bags to 63 litre gear bags for multi-day trips.
Buckles come second, because they are the part that fails first under daily use. A buckle that is clipped and unclipped by careless hands several times a day, stepped on and left in salt spray needs to be a quality fitting, which is why the SL-D002 uses UTX buckles. We can also supply spare buckle packs with the order, so a cracked buckle is a two-minute fix at the shop rather than a written-off bag.
Attachment points come third. Customers should clip bags to deck lines through a D-ring or webbing loop rather than through the buckle, so that a capsize or a hard pull does not open the closure. Welded D-rings on the bag body, in a position that makes clipping obvious, prevent many lost bags.
Most rental "leaks" are closures rolled once instead of three times, or bags packed so full the top cannot be folded. Operators who print a simple closing instruction on the bag body, below the fold zone, or on a tag attached to each bag, see far fewer wet phones and complaints. Our guide on how to close and use a roll-top dry bag covers the steps that fit on such a card, and we print it as part of the order.
Lost bags are mostly bags that sank or drifted out of sight. High-visibility colours such as yellow and orange make a bag easy to spot in waves and glare, and reflective print helps at dusk. A sealed roll-top with air inside usually floats, but a heavily packed bag may not, so for fleets where guests cannot be relied on to leave air inside, we can add a closed-cell foam insert that keeps the bag on the surface regardless. Our article on floating dry bags and buoyancy design explains the options. A floating bag is not a flotation device, and every customer still needs an approved buoyancy aid.
Numbering and colour coding make fleet management easier. Each bag can carry a printed number, and sizes can be colour coded, for example yellow for 10 litres and orange for 20 litres, so check-out and check-in are quick and missing bags are obvious at the end of the day.
Phones are the most expensive thing guests bring onto the water and the most common source of damage claims. Many operators now offer, rent or sell a waterproof phone pouch at check-in. Our SL-A082 and SL-A083 universal pouches fit phones up to 6.9 inches, close with a double slide lock and fold seal, and are rated IPX8 to 30 metres, while the SL-A064 adds a separate rear camera window so guests can take clear photos and video on the water without removing the phone. We pull-test lanyard attachment points, because a lanyard that snaps loses the phone, and a floating strap can be added for paddleboard and snorkel tours. Our guide to custom waterproof phone pouches covers printing and testing in more detail.
Turnaround hygiene is part of the guest experience. PVC and TPU bags wipe clean and dry quickly, which is one reason they suit rental use better than woven fabrics that hold sand and moisture. A simple routine works best: rinse inside and out with fresh water at the end of each day, wash with mild soap when soiled, and dry fully open in the shade before storing unrolled. Avoid strong solvents and alcohol-based cleaners on a daily basis, as they can harden coatings over time. For tours where guests change out of wet clothes, dry-wet separation bags such as our SL-D693 keep wet swimwear away from dry layers and make the bags easier to clean. Long sun exposure ages any dry bag, so storing fleet bags out of direct sunlight between hires adds seasons to their life.
Many operators run a shop alongside the rental counter. The same bag can be produced in two versions, a numbered, high-visibility fleet version for hire and a branded retail version in a different colour for sale, sharing one production run. Branded bags also work as souvenirs and as giveaways for corporate group bookings. Our guide to promotional dry bags with custom logo covers print placement and timing.
The standard MOQ is 300 pieces per design, and sizes of the same model can usually be split within it, for example 150 bags at 10 litres and 150 at 20 litres. Fleet numbering, colour coding and instruction printing are included in the setup. Smaller operators often combine an order with a local distributor or with neighbouring outfitters to reach the MOQ.
Timing matters more than price for most operators, because bags that arrive after the season opens are bags that miss the busiest weeks. Production on the SL-D002 takes about 20 days for up to 500 pieces and about 25 days up to 2,500, after a 7 to 15 day printed sample. Add sea freight of three to six weeks depending on destination. For Northern Hemisphere summer seasons, confirm orders by early in the year. Chinese New Year 2027 falls on Saturday 6 February, with Vietnamese Tet on the same day, and factories in both countries slow down from mid-January, so orders for spring openings should be confirmed by early December. We send a firm FOB quote within 24 hours once we have sizes, quantities, colours, numbering and logo.
Roll-top dry bags rated IPX7 go through a full water-immersion test of two hours or more on sampled units from every batch, closed with three folds exactly as the instruction card shows. Weld peel tests run at the start of every production run. Buckles, webbing, D-rings and phone pouch lanyard points are pull-tested, fabric is checked for abrasion resistance and colour fastness, and printed numbers and logos are tested for adhesion and rub resistance so they survive a season of sunscreen and salt. Incoming materials, in-line production and finished goods are inspected in turn, with SGS or QIMA inspection available on request. When operators inspect shipments themselves, we follow the full leak procedure: unboxing, vacuum extraction, a 24-hour static rest, and then the air-leak determination.
Goods of both Chinese and Vietnamese origin have carried the 12.5 percent Section 301 baseline in the United States since 24 July 2026, and Chinese origin additionally carries the existing China-specific Section 301 duties. Every Sealock design can be produced at either factory, so United States operators can compare both origins at the same specification.

With 500D PVC, quality buckles, daily rinsing and storage out of the sun, several seasons of regular hire is a realistic expectation. Buckles are the usual first failure, which is why we supply spares.
Usually the top was rolled only once or the bag was overfilled. A printed three-fold instruction on every bag prevents most of these cases.
Yes. Numbers, size colour codes, your logo and closing instructions can all be printed in the same setup.
A sealed bag with air inside usually floats, but a heavily packed bag may not. For guaranteed buoyancy, specify a closed-cell foam insert.
Usually yes, within one model. Many operators split 300 pieces across two or three sizes.
Rinse with fresh water daily, wash with mild soap when needed, dry fully open in the shade and store unrolled out of the sun.
