What Matters in a Waterproof Hiking Pack?
Waterproof fabrics do not breathe, so a hiking pack depends on its back system for comfort: suspended mesh or channelled EVA panels keep air moving. A hip belt moves weight off the shoulders on longer hikes. Do I need a rain cover with a waterproof hiking backpack?
Not with a welded body and sealed closure. A rain cover only protects a pack while it is fitted, while a welded shell is protected all the time.
Is a roll-top or zipper better for hiking?
Roll-tops seal best and expand for extra gear. Zipper and curved-top openings load faster. Both can be fully waterproof when welded.
