Sealock manufactures and supplies the SL-E071 22L Water-Resistant Commuter Backpack with Padded Laptop Sleeve for lifestyle brands, corporate gift programs, university and campus retail, and mobility and e-bike brands building an accessory line. It is a sewn product, and that is a deliberate specification rather than a fallback: a commuter pack lives or dies on how it sits against a back for two hours a day, and contoured straps, a shaped back panel, a suspended laptop sleeve and a three-panel colour-block shell are all pattern-and-stitch problems that a welded construction cannot solve as well.
Buyers who know Sealock through our waterproof dry bag and welded duffel range are sometimes surprised that we build a product like this. High-frequency welding is our most visible capability, but our in-house sewn production line is an equally professional operation, staffed and equipped to the same standard, and it has been running for as long as the welding shop has. The SL-E071 is one of the products where that matters: the shell panels are cut and joined to a pattern, the strap curvature is set by the pattern rather than by padding thickness, and the internal organiser is built the way a bag factory builds it.
Protection is calibrated honestly. The 600D polyester shell carries a PU face coating, the lining is PU-backed, and the two main openings use laminated coil zippers with rubberised pulls. That combination sheds rain, road spray, a spilled bottle inside a locker and the wet handoff between a bike rack and a lobby. It is not a sealed structure: the seams are sewn, the side pockets are open drawcord pockets, and there is no welded bladder inside. SL-E071 is specified as a water-resistant commuter pack and is not rated or intended for immersion, paddle sports, or extended time in standing water. Where a customer's program needs true immersion protection, our welded airtight-zipper backpack range is the correct family and we will say so at the quotation stage.
The arced main zipper opens the top of the bag wide enough to lay the pack down and see the whole interior at once, which is the practical difference between a commuter pack and a top-loading daypack. Inside, a light-grey PU-backed lining makes small dark items findable instead of lost — a black lining is cheaper and is the reason most commuters end up emptying the bag on a desk to find a charger.
The laptop sleeve is padded on both faces, suspended off the bag floor rather than stitched to it, and closed with a hook-and-loop retention strap across the opening. Suspension matters more than padding thickness: a sleeve sewn flush to the base transmits the full shock of the bag being set down onto the bottom edge of the machine. The sleeve accepts a 15.6-inch laptop and a slim tablet alongside. In front of it sits a zipped security pocket for a passport, cards or keys, with two open elastic slip pockets flanking it for a charger brick, cables and a notebook.
A vertical laminated zipper runs down the centre of the front panel into a flat quick-access pocket sized for a phone, a transit card, earbuds or a folded mask. Running it vertically rather than horizontally means it can be opened one-handed with the bag still on one shoulder, and it keeps the pocket contents from spilling forward when unzipped.
Each side carries a gusseted drawcord pocket with a cord lock, sitting under a shaped tab flap sewn into the shell panel. A plain elastic side pocket is the standard solution and it is also the standard failure — a bottle works its way out on a bike or a run for a bus. Cinching the cord holds a 750 ml bottle, a folded travel umbrella or a compact lock in place, and the pocket collapses flat against the shell when empty so it does not add width to the 13.5 cm profile.
The shoulder straps are contoured in an S-curve that follows the chest line rather than running straight down, padded through the shoulder and tapering to flat webbing at the adjustment buckles. The curvature is cut into the strap pattern, so it holds its shape whether the bag is full or half empty — straight-cut straps with heavy foam are the common shortcut and they dig at the collarbone under load.
The back panel is a full-height padded block with a shaped channel between the shoulder blades, faced in a darker abrasion panel that takes the wear from being set down and leaned against. A webbing haul handle is bar-tacked at the top centre for locker hooks, overhead racks and one-handed lifts. The pack is deliberately specified without a hip belt: at 22 L and a typical 5–7 kg commuter load, a hip belt adds bulk and dangling webbing without adding useful load transfer, and it is one of the first things corporate and campus buyers ask to have removed. A sternum strap is available as a running change where a program needs it.

Sealock has run OEM and ODM programs for outdoor, travel and lifestyle brands for over 20 years, and the most demanding requirements on this platform can be met. Development does not have to begin from an existing model: our engineering team regularly builds products from scratch off a customer's sketch, a physical sample, or nothing more than a target specification sheet, taking the project through structural design, pattern development, material sourcing, fit and carry validation, and pilot production. Both our high-frequency welding capability and our in-house sewn production line are professional operations in their own right, and hybrid constructions that combine a welded waterproof base or main body with a sewn carry system are fully supported. Ground-up custom development carries a longer lead time than a modification of an existing platform, and we will state that timeline honestly at the quotation stage rather than after patterns have been cut.

The water-related exclusions are not boilerplate. SL-E071 has sewn seams and open drawcord side pockets, so it will shed rain and spray but it has no sealed internal volume: in a sustained downpour without a rain cover, water will eventually track along the shoulder-strap seams and the base. The load exclusion is a carry-system limit — there is no hip belt, and above roughly 10 kg the load sits entirely on the shoulders, which is uncomfortable regardless of how well the straps are cut.
| Test | Standard |
|---|---|
| Seam strength test | Tensile and bar-tack pull testing at strap anchors, handle and base seams |
| Loaded drop test | Repeated drops at rated load, no seam failure or hardware fracture |
| Shoulder strap fatigue | Cyclic loading at strap anchor points with no stitch migration |
| Zipper fatigue test | 5,000 cycles on main and front zippers, laminate intact, smooth operation |
| Rain spray test | Simulated rainfall exposure, no ingress at panel seams or zipper tapes |
| Hydrostatic head | Shell fabric tested against internal coated-fabric standards |
| Abrasion resistance | Martindale cycling on shell, base panel and strap facing |
| Colour fastness and colour difference | Rubbing, washing and light fastness; ΔE checked against approved lab dip on every panel colour |

| Salt spray test | Metal components, corrosion and function retention |
Quality control runs across three gates. IQC screens incoming shell fabric, lining, foam, webbing, zippers and hardware against approved samples, with lot-level checks on coating weight and colour difference — on a colour-block product, panel-to-panel ΔE drift is the most common cosmetic reject and it is caught here rather than at final inspection. IPQC monitors stitch density, needle condition, bar-tack placement and pattern alignment in-line and pulls seam samples at set intervals. OQC performs full dimensional, functional and cosmetic checks on every carton lot, including zipper operation, strap symmetry and laptop sleeve fit.
Because SL-E071 is a water-resistant rather than a sealed product, the correct incoming-inspection procedure at the buyer's end is a rain spray exposure with absorbent paper placed inside the main compartment and the laptop sleeve, not an immersion test. Immersing this pack will produce a failure result on a product that was never specified to pass, and we would rather say that in advance than argue about it after a container has landed. Third-party inspection by SGS, QIMA or a buyer-nominated agency can be arranged at any stage of production.
| Feature | Advantage |
|---|---|
| Suspended padded laptop sleeve | The machine never rests on the bag floor, so setting the pack down does not shock the bottom edge of the screen |
| Pattern-cut S-curve straps | Curvature held by the pattern rather than by foam thickness; no collarbone digging under load |
| Light-grey lining | Small dark items stay findable instead of disappearing into a black interior |
| Drawcord side pockets | Bottles and locks stay put on a bike or a run for a bus, and the pocket collapses flat when empty |
| Vertical front zipper | One-handed access with the bag still on a shoulder; contents don't spill forward |
| In-house sewn production | Full pattern, fit and carry-system development under the same roof as our welded line |
| 13.5 cm depth | 22 L of usable volume without the bulk that makes a pack awkward in transit |
The clean contrast panel on the upper front and the flat area between the shoulder straps on the back both take branding well. Embroidery suits solid marks and reads as the premium option on a coated shell. A woven label sewn into a panel seam gives a restrained, apparel-style mark. Silicone or rubber patches produce a dimensional logo that survives abrasion and rain better than any surface print and are the usual choice for mobility and lifestyle brands. Heat transfer handles gradients and fine detail. The panel itself can also be debossed during moulding for a tonal, no-added-material mark. Zipper pulls, cord locks, buckles and webbing can all be colour-matched, and custom-moulded hardware carrying a brand mark is available at volume.
SL-E071 is available as a stock platform for wholesale and as a development base for OEM and ODM programs. Minimum order quantity is 300 pieces per colourway for the standard configuration, with FOB terms from Guangdong. Sample lead time is 7–15 days for a stock unit with applied branding, and longer where new patterns, custom hardware tooling or a new shell material are required. Sealock has built outdoor and travel gear for over 20 years, operates facilities in Dongguan, China and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and produces for brands including OSPREY, STANLEY, snow peak, MUJI and DESCENTE. Buyers managing tariff exposure across origins can run the same specification from either facility.
Buyers building out a commuter and daily-carry line usually look at this model alongside the SL-E965 business laptop backpack with trolley sleeve for a more formal silhouette, and the SL-E980 22 L waterproof bicycle commuter backpack or the SL-E986 20 L roll-top laptop backpack where the program needs a sealed rather than water-resistant construction. For a tactical-leaning commuter option, see the SL-E1145 25 L MOLLE commuter backpack, and for fully airtight daily carry the SL-E641 25 L minimalist airtight-zipper backpack.
No — it is water-resistant, and the distinction is worth being precise about. The shell has a PU face coating, the lining is PU-backed and both main openings use laminated zippers, so the pack sheds rain, road spray and incidental wetting without trouble. But the seams are sewn rather than welded and the side pockets are open, so there is no sealed internal volume. It is not rated for immersion, on-water use, or hours in a sustained downpour without a cover. For those, our welded airtight-zipper backpacks are the correct range.
In normal commuting exposure, yes. The laptop sits in a padded sleeve behind a laminated main zipper, inside a PU-backed lining, behind a PU-coated shell — three layers of resistance before water reaches it. In an extended heavy downpour, water will eventually track along the shoulder-strap seams, which is a property of sewn construction. Programs in genuinely wet climates usually add a stowable rain cover, which we can supply integrated in a base pocket.
Because it is the right construction for this product. Contoured shoulder straps, a shaped padded back panel, a suspended laptop sleeve and multi-panel colour blocking are pattern-and-stitch problems, and welding them would produce a worse-carrying, more expensive bag. Our sewn line is a full professional operation running alongside the welding shop, not a side capability, and it develops patterns, fit and carry systems in-house. We also build hybrid products where a welded waterproof body is paired with a sewn carry system.
A standard 15.6-inch machine fits with the retention strap closed and the main zipper closing without strain. Thicker gaming and mobile-workstation chassis at that screen size are tight — if a program is specifically for those, we would recommend scaling the pattern, which is a straightforward modification on this platform. We will confirm against a sample of the actual machine on request.
At 22 L and a typical 5–7 kg commuter load, a hip belt does not transfer meaningful weight; it adds bulk, adds dangling webbing, and is one of the first features corporate and campus buyers ask us to delete. Above roughly 10 kg a hip belt does start to earn its place, but so does a different pack. A sternum strap is available as a running change where a program wants one.
That is exactly what the drawcord is for. Plain elastic side pockets lose bottles on a bike or a run for a bus, which is the single most common complaint on commuter packs in this class. Cinching the cord lock holds a 750 ml bottle, a folded umbrella or a compact lock, and releasing it takes one hand. When empty, the gusset collapses flat so the pocket does not add width.
Yes. The shell and contrast panels are Pantone-matched to customer specification, the pack can be run as a single solid colour or with a different panel split entirely, and zipper tape, pulls, webbing, buckles and cord locks are all colour-matchable. Panel-to-panel colour difference is checked against an approved lab dip at IQC on every colour, because that is where colour-block products most often go wrong.
All three are supported as running changes, along with a sternum strap, side compression straps, reflective trim, a key leash, pen loops, a removable laptop sleeve and a tablet divider. Adding a trolley pass-through requires a back-panel pattern change, which we will quote with its own lead time rather than folding it into the base sample timeline.
Use a rain spray exposure with absorbent paper placed inside the main compartment and the laptop sleeve, plus dimensional, zipper-operation, strap-symmetry and colour-difference checks. Do not run an immersion test — SL-E071 is not specified to pass one, and immersing it will produce a failure on a criterion the product was never sold against. We will document our full OQC procedure on request so your incoming inspection reproduces our results.
MOQ is 300 pieces per colourway for the standard configuration, FOB Guangdong. Samples ship in 7–15 days for stock units with applied branding; new patterns, custom hardware tooling or a new shell material extend that. Bulk production lead time depends on order size and season and is confirmed at order placement. The same specification can be produced from either our China or our Vietnam facility. Third-party inspection by SGS, QIMA or a buyer-nominated agency can be scheduled at any production stage.
