Sealock manufactures and supplies the SL-E724 30L Welded Waterproof Clamshell Backpack for outdoor, moto, photo and travel brands, and for field, survey and crew-kitting programs. The pack measures 27 × 22 × 52 cm, carries 30 L and weighs 1 kg empty. The shell is a TPU-laminated ripstop with a visible cross-hatch base weave, joined entirely by high-frequency welding — shell panels, base, lash tabs, handle anchors and strap anchors all fused rather than stitched.
The closure is a YKK waterproof zipper running the full perimeter of the body across the top and down both sides. That geometry is what defines the product: the pack opens to 180° and lies flat, with contents visible and reachable on both halves at once, rather than being loaded and searched through a top opening. A second horizontal YKK waterproof zipper on the upper front panel serves a flat quick-access pocket.
Protection is rated IPX6 — heavy rain, road spray and directed water jets from any angle. The shell and all welded seams are watertight, but the closure is a waterproof zipper rather than an airtight zipper, so the pack is not a sealed vessel and is not rated or intended for submersion, paddle sports where capsize is expected, or dropping in water. Programs that need immersion protection should specify our airtight-zipper backpack range instead, and we will say so at the quotation stage.
The main closure is a YKK waterproof zipper with a laminated tape and moulded pulls, running across the top of the pack and down both side panels. The zipper tape is welded to the shell rather than stitched through it, so the closure line carries no needle holes, and the zipper terminations sit inside welded end pockets that take tension off the last teeth — the specific point where zipper-closed waterproof packs most often fail.
Opened, the pack lies flat in two equal halves. For packing, that means a folded stack goes in as a stack and stays where it was put. For field use, it means a user can set the pack down, open it once, and see everything rather than excavating through a top aperture with one hand. The firm TPU-laminated shell holds both halves open on their own; a softer fabric would collapse inward and defeat the layout.
One half of the interior is an organiser panel faced in dark lining. It carries a padded sleeve with a webbing retention strap for a laptop, tablet or document folder, a row of slip pockets for cables, pens and small tools, a zipped mesh-backed pocket and a key leash on an elastic tether. Everything is held against the panel, so nothing migrates to the bottom of the bag when the pack is closed and carried upright.
The other half is left as open volume with a zipped flat pocket on the inner wall and a set of hook-and-loop anchor patches distributed across the panel. Those patches accept modular dividers, camera inserts or pouches, which is what makes a single pack work for a laptop-and-documents commute on one day and a camera body with two lenses on another. Fixed dividers would force one use case at the expense of the other; anchor patches let the buyer's own program decide.
A vertical webbing daisy chain runs down the centre of the front panel, bar-tacked at intervals to give a column of attachment loops. Four welded lash tabs sit at the panel corners, and twin webbing straps with side-release buckles cross the lower front. Together they carry a helmet, a folded shell, a tripod, a lock or a strapped dry bag outside the sealed volume — which is where wet and dirty gear belongs on a waterproof pack — and the lower straps double as compression, pulling a half-loaded 30 L body down so the contents do not shift in transit.
Every fixed attachment point on the shell is welded. Adding a bar-tacked webbing anchor to a welded waterproof pack introduces a needle perforation for the sake of a feature, which is exactly the compromise this construction exists to avoid. The daisy chain webbing itself is stitched to a welded carrier tab rather than through the shell.
The back panel uses two contoured foam pads running vertically either side of a central channel, bonded to the shell rather than stitched. The channel is the ventilation strategy: on a non-breathable welded shell, a continuous flat back traps a layer of moist air against the wearer, while a twin-pad layout leaves an open column for it to move through. The pads are shaped to the spine line so the load sits on either side of it rather than across it.
The shoulder straps are contoured in an S-curve, padded through the shoulder and mesh-faced on the contact side, anchored at welded shell points and adjusted on flat webbing through low-profile buckles. A sternum strap on sliding webbing rails crosses the chest and can be raised or lowered to fit. A top handle is anchored on welded tabs for locker hooks and one-handed lifts. The stock configuration has no hip belt; one is available as a running change where a program needs load transfer above roughly 12 kg.

Sealock has run OEM and ODM programs for outdoor, moto and travel brands for over 20 years, and the most demanding requirements on this platform can be met. Development does not have to begin from an existing model: our engineering team regularly builds products from scratch off a customer's sketch, a physical sample, or nothing more than a target specification sheet, taking the project through structural design, pattern development, welding-parameter validation, carry-system fit testing and pilot production. Both our high-frequency welding capability and our in-house sewn production line are professional operations in their own right, so hybrid constructions — a welded waterproof body with a sewn organiser or carry system — are fully supported. Ground-up custom development carries a longer lead time than a modification of an existing platform, and we will state that timeline honestly at the quotation stage rather than after tooling has started.

The immersion exclusion is structural. SL-E724 uses a YKK waterproof zipper rather than an airtight zipper — the right choice for a pack opened and closed several times a day, and the reason it is not a sealed vessel. Held under water it will eventually take water in at the closure. The load ceiling is a carry-system limit: the stock configuration has no hip belt, so above roughly 12 kg the weight sits entirely on the shoulders.
| Test | Standard |
|---|---|
| Heavy rain and water-jet test | IPX6 conditions — directed jets from all angles, no ingress at seams, zippers or welded tabs |
| Weld seam peel and shear | Destructive sampling against internal welded-seam strength standards |
| Zipper fatigue test | 5,000 cycles on the full-perimeter zipper, seal and operation retained |
| Hinge fatigue test | Repeated 180° open-and-close cycling at the clamshell fold line, no laminate cracking |
| Lash tab and anchor pull-off | Welded tabs, handle anchors and strap anchors tested to internal force limits |
| Loaded drop test | Repeated drops at rated load, no weld separation or hardware fracture |
| Hydrostatic head | Shell fabric tested against internal coated-fabric standards |
| Abrasion resistance | Martindale cycling on shell, base panel and strap facing |
| Print adhesion | Silicone print cross-hatch and rub testing after wet and dry cycling |
| Colour fastness and colour difference | Rubbing and light fastness; ΔE checked against approved lab dip |
| Salt spray test | Sliders and hardware, corrosion and function retention |
| Low-temperature flex | Shell and zipper tested for cracking and stiffness at reduced temperature |
Quality control runs across three gates. IQC screens incoming TPU-laminated fabric, YKK zipper tape, foam, webbing and hardware against approved samples, with lot-level checks on laminate thickness and colour difference. IPQC monitors welding temperature, pressure and dwell time at every station in real time and pulls destructive seam samples at set intervals — a drifting weld parameter is the most common cause of a pack that passes visual inspection and leaks in the field, and it is caught here rather than at final inspection. The clamshell fold line gets its own in-line check, since a 180° hinge on a laminated fabric concentrates flex in one band. OQC performs the full functional and weather check on every carton lot.
The correct incoming-inspection procedure at the buyer's end is a heavy rain or water-jet exposure under IPX6 conditions with absorbent paper placed inside both halves of the interior, plus dimensional, zipper-operation, weld-seam visual and colour-difference checks. Do not run an immersion test — SL-E724 is not specified to pass one, and immersing it will produce a failure against a criterion it was never sold on. We will document our full OQC procedure on request so your incoming inspection reproduces our results. Third-party inspection by SGS, QIMA or a buyer-nominated agency can be arranged at any stage of production.
| Feature | Advantage |
|---|---|
| Full-perimeter YKK waterproof zipper | The pack opens flat and everything is reachable at once, instead of being excavated through a top aperture |
| Fully welded shell and fittings | No needle perforation and no proud thread — removes the leak path and the first abrasion failure point together |
| Firm TPU-laminated ripstop | Both halves stay open on their own; a softer shell collapses inward and makes a clamshell unusable |
| Split organiser and open volume | Documents and small items stay held on one side while bulky gear loads freely on the other |
| Hook-and-loop modular anchors | One pack serves a laptop commute and a camera kit without fixed dividers forcing either |
| Welded lash tabs and daisy chain | Wet or dirty gear rides outside the sealed volume without a stitch hole in the shell |
| Twin-pad back with central channel | An open column for moist air to escape, against a shell that cannot breathe |
The logo as supplied is a high-build silicone screen print — silicone ink cures at a temperature the TPU laminate tolerates, sits slightly proud of the surface, and holds its edge through abrasion and repeated wetting in a way that standard surface print does not. It is the default recommendation on this shell. A silicone heat transfer gives a similar raised finish with finer detail resolution at a higher unit cost. A welded TPU patch produces a tonal, dimensional mark applied in the same process as the rest of the pack, though it carries a visible patch outline that some brands want and others do not. The shell can also be embossed during the welding cycle for a debossed mark with no added material, and reflective print is available for rider-facing programs. Zipper pulls, webbing, buckles and the sternum hardware can all be colour-matched, with custom-moulded branded hardware available at volume.
SL-E724 is available as a stock platform for wholesale and as a development base for OEM and ODM programs. Minimum order quantity is 300 pieces per colour for the standard configuration, with FOB terms from Guangdong. Sample lead time is 7–15 days for a stock unit with applied branding, and longer where new patterns, custom hardware tooling or a different shell material are required. Sealock has built waterproof and welded gear for over 20 years, operates facilities in Dongguan, China and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and produces for brands including OSPREY, STANLEY, snow peak, MUJI and DESCENTE. The same specification can be produced from either origin, which matters to buyers managing tariff exposure.
Buyers specifying a waterproof pack line usually compare this model with the SL-E698 25 L dual-slider airtight-zipper backpack and the SL-E641 25 L minimalist airtight-zipper backpack where the program needs immersion-level protection rather than IPX6. For a tactical-leaning commuter with an external MOLLE panel, see the SL-E1145 25 L MOLLE commuter backpack; for a roll-top alternative, the SL-E986 20 L roll-top laptop backpack. Programs adding a weatherproof carrier at duffel volume should look at the 55 L airtight-zipper waterproof duffel, and riders at the SL-E984 55 L three-way motorcycle bag.
SL-E724 is rated IPX6 — it resists sustained heavy rain, road spray and directed water jets from any angle. It cannot be submerged. The shell and all welded seams are watertight, but the closure is a YKK waterproof zipper rather than an airtight zipper, which is the right component for a pack opened and closed several times a day and also the reason it is not a sealed vessel. For capsize or drop-in-water scenarios, specify our airtight-zipper backpack range.
Access. A roll-top seals better but loads through a single top aperture, so finding anything means unpacking what is above it. The perimeter zipper opens the pack to 180° with both halves visible and reachable at once, which is the difference between a dry bag with straps and a pack you can actually work out of. The trade-off is the rating: a roll-top with welded seams can reach IPX7, a zipper closure of this type reaches IPX6, and we state that plainly rather than blur it.
The padded sleeve on the organiser panel takes a standard 15.6-inch machine with the retention strap closed. Sleeve sizing from 13 to 17 inches is a straightforward modification on this platform, and a removable sleeve is available where a program wants the panel to serve a camera insert instead. We will confirm against a sample of the actual machine on request.
By high-build silicone screen print. Silicone ink cures at a temperature the TPU laminate tolerates, bonds into the coating rather than sitting on top of it, and holds its edge through abrasion and repeated wetting. It is checked at OQC by cross-hatch and rub testing after wet and dry cycling. Silicone heat transfer, welded TPU patch, shell embossing and reflective print are all available as alternatives.
They anchor modular dividers, camera inserts and pouches to the main panel. A pack with fixed dividers is committed to one use case; anchor patches let the same body carry a laptop-and-documents load one day and a camera body with two lenses the next, and let a buyer's program specify its own insert set rather than accepting ours. Fixed dividers are available where a program prefers them.
Yes. The firm hand comes from the TPU lamination on a ripstop base, and it is what makes the clamshell layout work — both halves stay open on their own when the pack is set down, and the body keeps its shape when only half loaded. A softer shell would collapse inward as soon as the zipper was opened. The trade-off is that the pack does not compress down flat when empty; programs that need packability should look at a roll-top platform instead.
Yes. The corner tabs are welded TPU bonded directly to the shell and tested to internal pull-off limits, and the daisy chain webbing is stitched to a welded carrier tab rather than through the shell. Nothing on the outside of this pack is attached with a needle through the waterproof body, because that would defeat the construction for the sake of a feature.
Not in the stock configuration — it has a sternum strap only. At 30 L and a typical 6–10 kg load, a hip belt adds bulk and dangling webbing without transferring meaningful weight, and moto and photo buyers in particular ask for it to be deleted. A hip belt is available as a running change where a program carries closer to the 12 kg ceiling.
Yes. Pantone-matched shells in matte or gloss laminate, scaled patterns from roughly 22 L to 40 L, and alternative substrates including a heavier TPU laminate, PVC tarpaulin or recycled TPU are all supported. If the program needs immersion-level protection, the same silhouette can be rebuilt with an airtight-zipper closure, which changes tooling and lead time and is quoted separately.
MOQ is 300 pieces per colour for the standard configuration, FOB Guangdong. Samples ship in 7–15 days for stock units with applied branding; new patterns, custom hardware tooling or a different shell material extend that. Bulk production lead time depends on order size and season and is confirmed at order placement. The same specification can be produced from either our China or our Vietnam facility. Third-party inspection by SGS, QIMA or a buyer-nominated agency can be scheduled at any production stage.
