Sealock is a fishing sling bag manufacturer producing waterproof slings for tackle, fly fishing and outdoor brands, with OEM and private label production from 300 pieces, IPX6 to IPX8 constructions, and factories in Dongguan, China and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This guide explains how waterproof fishing slings are built, which construction suits which angler, the design details that decide whether a sling earns good reviews, and what MOQ, price and testing to expect when you develop your own.

The sling has become one of the most searched bag formats in fishing, for both lure anglers and fly anglers. It carries more than a chest pack, swings to the front without being taken off, and sits lower and cooler than a backpack. It is also a format where small design decisions show up immediately in use. Which shoulder the strap sits on, how hard the zipper is to pull, and whether the front pocket is as waterproof as the main compartment are the things anglers write about in reviews.

Which Waterproof Construction Suits a Fishing Sling?

There are three levels of protection, and the right one depends on how close to the water your customer fishes.

The first is a fully welded body with an airtight zipper, rated IPX8. Every panel is joined with high-frequency welded seams, the opening is a moulded airtight zipper, and the bag can be submerged. This is the construction for wading anglers who stand waist-deep in a river, kayak anglers who may capsize, and anyone who carries a phone, car keys and a camera on the water. Our SL-E589 and SL-E868A are built this way and are rated for submersion to 20 metres.

The second is a welded body with an airtight zipper at IPX7, tested for immersion but built lighter and at a lower cost. Our SL-E548 8 litre sling uses 500D PVC laminate with a full-arc airtight zipper, and suits bank and boat anglers who want genuine waterproofing without the weight of an expedition-grade bag.

The third is a welded shell with waterproof coil zippers, rated IPX6 for heavy rain, spray and water jets, but not for immersion. Our SL-E1314 uses YKK waterproof zippers on a welded TPU-coated shell. It opens faster and more easily than an airtight zipper, which many anglers prefer for constant access to lures and tippet through the day. It is the right choice when the bag will be rained on and splashed, not dunked, and it can be upgraded to an airtight zipper for buyers who need immersion protection.

Many fishing slings also combine welding and sewing. A welded waterproof main compartment can be paired with sewn mesh pockets, fly patch panels and bottle holders where full waterproofing is not needed. Sealock runs high-frequency welding and industrial sewing as separate lines in separate rooms on the same production floor, so a hybrid sling is built in one factory under one quality system.

Which Design Details Decide How a Fishing Sling Is Reviewed?

Shoulder orientation is the first. Most slings are built to be worn over one particular shoulder, and anglers who prefer the other side find the main zipper harder to reach. One published review of a leading fly fishing sling makes exactly this point: wearing it on the other shoulder works, but is not ideal. Because the strap anchors are welded rather than sewn, we can build left-shoulder and right-shoulder versions of the same design, or offer a mirrored version as a second SKU, without new tooling for the body.

The second is zipper effort. Airtight zippers are stiff when new, and reviewers notice. The answer is not a looser zipper, which would leak, but a moulded pull large enough to grip with wet or gloved fingers, a pull cord, and a small tube of zipper lubricant in the box with a line on the care card explaining when to use it. On the SL-E589 the zipper ends are protected by moulded end caps, because the last few teeth are where airtight zippers most often fail.

The third is honesty about the outer pocket. Reviews regularly find that a sling's small front pocket lets in water during a dunk test, even when the main compartment stays dry. Either the front pocket should be welded with a waterproof zipper, or the product listing should say clearly that only the main compartment is submersible. We specify this on every tech pack so there is no ambiguity.

The fourth is stability. A sling that swings while casting or wading is tiring and unsafe. A stabiliser strap or waist belt that locks the bag to the body solves this, and on wading slings it should be easy enough to clip that anglers actually use it. The fifth is attachment points. Forceps, nippers, net and rod holders should hang from welded docks and moulded D-rings, not from webbing stitched through the waterproof shell, because every stitch on a waterproof panel is a needle hole.

What Is the MOQ for Custom Fishing Sling Bags?

The standard MOQ is 300 pieces per design, including your logo, on models such as the SL-E548 and SL-E1314. The IPX8 SL-E589 and SL-E868A start at 500 pieces, because the 840D double-coated TPU and the airtight zipper are purchased in larger lots. Standard colourways of one model can usually be split within the MOQ. Custom Pantone fabrics, custom camouflage and dyed-to-match webbing need their own material run. For licensed camouflage patterns, the buyer supplies the licence. Our article on OEM waterproof fishing bags for wholesale buyers covers order structure across the fishing range.

What Drives the Price of a Waterproof Fishing Sling?

The closure is the largest single cost. An airtight zipper costs several times more than a coil waterproof zipper, and it is the main reason an IPX8 sling is priced well above an IPX6 one. The fabric is next, with 840D double-coated TPU above 500D PVC laminate and TPU-coated polyester. Every additional welded pocket, dock or D-ring patch adds a weld step and inspection time. Carry systems, such as a moulded ergonomic back panel or a removable waist belt, add components, and branded hardware such as UTX buckles costs more than generic fittings.

As a working guide, an IPX6 welded sling with a YKK waterproof zipper sits in the middle of our fishing range, an IPX7 PVC airtight sling is close to it, and an IPX8 840D TPU sling with an end-capped airtight zipper and waist belt sits at the top. We send a firm FOB quote within 24 hours once we have your reference model or design, quantity, colours, logo and packaging requirements.

How Can a Fishing Sling Be Branded?

Anglers like a brand that looks as technical as the bag. High-build silicone screen printing, as used on the SL-E1314, gives a raised, durable logo that resists sunscreen and fish slime. A high-frequency welded TPU logo patch is permanent and adds no needle holes to a submersible bag. A hook-and-loop patch panel, as on the SL-E589 and SL-E868A, lets your customers add club or guide patches and carries your own woven patch from the factory. Branded zipper pulls, custom-moulded UTX buckles, jacquard webbing and reflective prints complete the look.

How Are Fishing Sling Bags Tested?

Testing follows the rating. IPX7 and IPX8 slings go through a full water-immersion test of two hours or more on sampled units from every batch. IPX6 slings are tested against heavy rain and water jets, and we never describe them as submersible. Weld peel tests run at the start of each production run. Airtight and waterproof zippers are cycled 3,000 times on our fatigue tester, the bag and its strap anchors go through more than 1,500 load cycles, welded docks and D-rings are pull-tested, and buckles and metal fittings go through salt spray testing, because fishing slings live in salt air and brackish water. Fabric is checked for abrasion resistance, colour fastness and colour difference against the approved sample.

Incoming materials, in-line production and finished goods are each inspected, with SGS or QIMA inspection available on request. When buyers inspect a shipment themselves, we follow the full leak procedure: unboxing, vacuum extraction, a 24-hour static rest, and then the air-leak determination. Our fishing slings are produced under BSCI, ISO 9001 and Sedex audited systems.

Origin and Capacity in 2026

Goods of both Chinese and Vietnamese origin have carried the 12.5 percent Section 301 baseline in the United States since 24 July 2026, and Chinese origin additionally carries the existing China-specific Section 301 duties. Every Sealock sling can be produced at either factory, so United States buyers can choose Vietnam origin at the same specification. Monthly capacity on our IPX8 fishing slings is around 15,000 pieces, which supports seasonal programmes timed for spring fishing openers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the sling be worn on either shoulder?

Most slings are designed for one shoulder. We can produce left-shoulder and right-shoulder versions of the same design, so your customers can choose.

Why is the waterproof zipper so stiff?

Airtight zippers are tight by design. A large moulded pull, a pull cord and occasional zipper lubricant make them easier to use and extend their life. We can include lubricant and a care card in the packaging.

Is the front pocket waterproof too?

Only if it is specified that way. On some designs the front pocket is welded with a waterproof zipper, on others it is water resistant only. We confirm this on the tech pack so your listing can state it accurately.

Can I wade or swim with the sling?

Only with an IPX7 or IPX8 model with an airtight zipper. IPX6 slings are built for rain and spray, not for immersion.

Can you add a rod holder or net slot?

Yes. Rod holders, net slots, forceps docks, bottle pockets and MOLLE panels can all be added, attached to welded patches so the waterproof shell is not pierced.

Can you produce our own camouflage pattern?

Yes. Custom prints are available. For licensed camouflage brands, the licence must be supplied by the buyer.
